Back to the Basics

Sometimes we forget how simple weight loss really is.

Calories In VS. Calories Out

You eat more than you burn, you gain weight. You eat less than you burn, you lose weight. So here are a few questions you can ask yourself to see where you're at on the scale.

  1. Am I conscious or aware of everything I'm putting into my mouth or am I eating whatever comes my way?
  2. Am I doing ANYTHING to try and burn calories? Whether it be walking, parking at a farther parking space, a quick run, pushups before bed, situps in the morning. ANYTHING.
  3. Do I try and eat foods that are healthy for my body, or do I eat for pure enjoyment?
  4. Do I remember that food is my fuel and is necessary for my body to function, not just for my taste buds?
  5. Am I concerned to work out the most important muscle in my body, my heart? (Which can be done by cardio. Sometimes we think of working out as a weightloss tool only but it has far greater health affects on us than weightloss.)
  6. Do I try and eat smaller portions of foods with higher calories or stick to foods with lower calories?
  7. Do I try and stay away from processed foods and stick with the natural, or does it not even cross my mind?
  8. Do I read the nutrition labels on that back of the food containers?
  9. Do I notice what time of day or night I'm eating and the affects it might have on my body? (i.e. eating late at night and then not being hungry in the morning for breakfast, a very crucial meal for our metabolism.)
  10. Have I told myself that I can't lose weight no matter what I do so I've given up?
Here are a few questions to ask yourself and see where you are at in the weight loss equation. Of course we shouldn't be obsessed with it and allow it consume our lives, but at the same time we give up too easily for the way we want to look. Just remember it's as simple as eating less than we burn. This doesn't mean to eat one meal a day. Just eat correct portions and eat every 3 hours to keep your metabolism going. Give yourself time and let mother nature do her charm.
