THINK!

In an article from Kiplinger's Personal Finance magazine it gives some interesting facts to watch out for when we're eating. The author of Mindless Eating, Brian Wansink, writes about our eating habits and that "most of the 200-plus choices we make every day about food are mindless and ill-advised."

Here are some interesting statistics that he found showing that how we eat has less to do with how hungry we are, but more to do with the influences around us.

  1. Office workers ate nearly three times more chocolate when bowls of sweets were on their desks rather than 6 feet away on a file cabinet.
  2. People eating with a friend consumed 35% more than when they ate alone.
  3. People consumed 22% more calories when eating from a 12-inch plate than when they ate from a 10-inch plate.
His recommendations:
  1. Keep healthy snacks nearby (so you'll eat those instead of the tempting sweets)
  2. Devote half of your plate to salad or vegetables (but you do that anyways, right?! Since you eat only whole foods?!!)
  3. Eat from smaller plates
So just be a little more mindful of when you're eating, what you're putting into your mouth, and how much you're consuming.
